Characters- Part I

By Myna | February 16, 2008

Many people have asked me how exactly I relate to my characters.  It’s difficult to explain because it’s just that natural.

On other occasions I’ve been asked how exactly do I create these characters.  I’m also caught without words.

Therefore, I think it necessary to talk about these special beings that pop from my imagination and into my different works.

Firstly, my characters present themselves in different ways.  Sometimes I’ll be looking for them in the corners of my imagination and then they’ll gain a life of their own.  Other times, they arrive quite unexpected; I might be enjoying a lemonade and suddenly I get the idea of creating a being that will also prefer that drink.  There is no determined way to give birth to a character.  I sometimes consider they have a mind of their own from the very start.  Ever since I began writing, I’ve had thousands of characters, some more developed than others.  Some of my dearest characters were born when I was in 7th or in 9th grade.  They crept from somewhere deep within my soul and haven’t left me ever since.  True, they’re very different now to their original concept, but they have still accompanied me through many years.

Relating to characters is a whole different deal.  There are characters you love and think about all the time.  There are others you can’t quite bring forward.  A lot of people don’t even grasp the concept of ‘relating’.  I like to think of my characters as individuals who live in a parallel universe to ours, but live nonetheless.  As I’ve mentioned, they have a life of their own and the moment you try to limit them, they’ll be a failure as truly GOOD characters.  For example, imagining any character is simple.  It’s getting to know that character which requires patience and involving the character in various situations.

Welcome

That’s right, friends; this page is officially on its way!

Hello.

Effectively I would like to give you a warm welcome to this website or should I say my digital ‘working studio’.  Have you ever had a feeling that you’re doing precisely what you were born to do?  Well, that’s exactly how I feel about writing.  It comes as natural to me, as any other of the fundamental needs.  You will be able find some of my works here.  Some will be in Spanish, others will be in English.  You can take your pick.  Not only will I be posting my writings, but I’ll also be sharing a piece of my mind right here in this space.

You can access the About me to further inform yourselves about upcoming projects and/or project development.  However, this wouldn’t be a proper introduction if I didn’t say some basics about myself.

Currently, I’m a third year Law Student at the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) in Dominican Republic.  Rest assured all of the projects that will subsequently be posted in this page will be copyrighted!  I’m a very diplomatic and passionate person, who believes in overcoming obstacles no matter how tough it might seem.  I definitely want my books to be published; have them serve as inspiration to the generations to come.

Enjoy the posts, and enjoy the projects!

 Love,

Myna~
